Just wanted to let you know that we loved your quote that you posted yesterday!

I sent it to my mom and she liked it so much that she asked me to print it out in color so she could hang it up in the house for me, my sister and herself to look at! We stay at the W Union Square, which is one block from PRANA NYC.

It’s a long story but in a nutshell, we stayed there one weekend while we were building out our studio years ago–as a treat– (we had usually stayed with friends in the East Village) and one night my kids and I got stuck in the elevator for AN HOUR while it shaked and dropped 20 floors at a time…it was a real life Tower of Terror (from Disneyworld).

The W didn’t do the right thing at the time of the experience–basically, Philippe called me on my cell and asked where we were (it was midnight after the hour in the elevator had passed) and I told him we were stuck in the elevator and it was dropping and really scary and that the W wasn’t responding to us hitting the red alarm button.

Philippe called the fire department, and they got us out.

We were all fine but my kids were traumatized by the experience (so was Super-mom!) and I sat down with their Manager a day later and told her that I was not a litigious person but what had happened was not OK and I wanted future guests to be safe. (They hadn’t responded b/c they didn’t want it to go on file b/c they weren’t up to code, etc.).

She totally owned it and said “What can I do to earn your trust again?”

I said “We’re opening a Yoga studio a block away and I’d like to be friends and work together. Also, we need a place to stay when we come to town.”

So the W gave us a ridiculously over the top suite (it was like an apartment) for 18 stays, and after our 18th stay, has continued to treat us like gold–they are like family now there–and give us good rates.

So that’s the scoop!

They got all their elevators fixed (LOL) so no worries about that, and we love that hotel. And the people.
