The Cupcake Gender Surprise Party
I love cupcakes. Not so much the taste of em (too sweet, prefer muffins
but the look and energy of em. They’re a really happy memory from my childhood and ever since Madison (now 14) was little, I’ve been drawin em with my kids when I color with them. This morphed into a minor obsession with cupcake paraphernalia, which you’ll find all over our home. In a nutshell, I’ll quote my friend Wendy’s daughter Katie, age 12, who visited us last summer, “Wow, there are cupcakes everywhere in your home. It’s so fun and happy and childlike here.”
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
I also love surprises. Who doesn’t? So when I heard about one of our Prana Yoga Instructor’s Cupcake Gender Surprise Party, I just had to spread the word. This is so cool. Love the idea! Here are her words:
“My husband and I went to my 18 week ultrasound this morning and all looks good! What a blessing and a miracle. We are SO grateful to have all look healthy. We tried for nearly two years for this so this journey just feels so amazing to us to finally be experiencing all this. To have a little fun, we asked the ultrasound technician to write down whether it’s a boy or girl on a card we provided and seal it in an envelope. I am taking that envelope over to Treat, a cupcake bar in Needham, tonight, and they are making two cupcakes for us, a carrot cake one for my husband and a chocolate gluten free one for me, and they are putting pink or blue frosting in the middle so when we go out for a nice dinner on Friday night, we can cut into the cupcakes for dessert and find out what we’re having! It’s SO much fun and the excitement and anticipation make me feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve! I can’t wait until Friday!! It will still be a private moment just for the 3 of us (well, and I suppose our waiter or waitress might be involved) and then we can share the news with family and friends after that. I am in love with this whole journey. Honestly–pregnancy just feels incredible in every way.”
When I told this Super-mom that I loved the idea and wanted to write a blog about it and asked her permission (which I always do, of course), she replied:
“The whole ‘gender reveal’ cupcake/cake idea is not my original idea. It’s apparently a trend now for people to do “gender reveal” parties where the couple either shares the news this way or finds out alongside all their friends and family, making a whole event of it. This idea, though fun and something I would love to attend as a guest, wasn’t exactly for us, so we tweaked it. We just wanted to make it a more private, personal thing, but loved the celebratory aspect of the cupcake, and the surprise of it. It’s like our own little party as a family
Stay tuned!”
Of course I’ll reveal next week what she’s having. So we can all join in on the fun….
(Although I already know because I’m wicked intuitive). ![]()
Have the best day ever!
Namaste!
