Amen!
When I go to bed at night and mentally review my day (not too much....just the big stuff), I am reminded that everything that I say, do etc. is my choice. Sometimes those choices are made out of love, frustration, a little fear, happiness, whatever. We all stumble which to me may be the biggest gift because we can learn from it. I have learned my best lessons from mistakes!

*another thing about intention that I have learned that has helped me see how others perceive life is that even the very best of intentions (in our minds) may not work for others, which is OK.

Hi Chrissy,

Yes, gossip is a tricky one. It is very insidious indeed.

Philippe and I face this with running our four Yoga Centers and opening our Cafe'. There is certain information that we need to share with each other on a regular basis about the Centers and/or the Cafe' in order to create the best Centers and Cafe' ever, but I do stop and ask myself from time to time, "Is this gossip, or does this information need to be shared with my partner so that everything runs seamlessly?"

And I agree completely that as always, intention is key.

I frequently teach in my classes that "intention is everything--you can do the exact same action but with a different intention and get a completely different result."

Namaste!

Hi Kristi,

Yes, it does. Practice, practice, and more practice!

But as I said, it's way more fun than practicing backhands (at least for me). :)

Namaste!

Thanks Mer,

I love your words "brush myself off a bit and move forward."

So wise.

Namaste as we take off for Nantucket for 2 weeks!

Taylor, this was a great post!
What struck me the most was the paragraph about gossip. I think that from the time we are small (especially for girls) it is acceptable to "chat" or to be "in the know", which is normal and very much in line with human nature. We all like to be included, and cared for, so it can be far too easy to get wrapped up in gossip to fit in or to be a part of something or someone.... and it does take time and practice to unlearn gossiping because it is a behavioral habit that can be hard to break.
The fact is that most of us have people in our lives, who we talk to and about because we are social beings. I guess the best way to know if it is gossip is through intention and motive. It is one thing to say "so and so is going through XYZ, what can we do as their friends to help them?", to a mutual friend rather than to say "OMG did you hear about so and so? I KNEW it!!!". The transfer of information is not what makes it gossip, but the spirit behind what is being said is telling. For me, I do my best to choose wisely, and like you, when I get wrapped up in any nonsense I remind myself that the Golden Rule is truly the way to go!

Thank you so much Taylor for this post. Sometimes we need the most simple ideas laid out for us in order to "get it". When you said that you practice every day all day training your mind it's like a lightbulb went on for me. Why would I think that having the best day ever everyday would just be bestowed on me? Like anything worthwhile in life it takes work and attention and practice. Thank you for that reminder! Off to practice, Kristi

Thank you Taylor! I was needing a bit of a reminder on a few points and this post was timed perfectly. Syncronicity!!

Being gentle with myself is one of the biggest challenges for me. I find it easier to be compassionate towards others than towards myself. Thank you for this reminder as I brush myself off a bit and move forward.

Hope our paths cross soon :-)

Namaste,
