Hi Super-mom Nancy,

Thanks for your kind words.

I am so sorry that you also lost a baby--and at 17 weeks, sigh.

But I too believe the Nature is very smart, and in the end, after many tears, I bowed to her wisdom and found gratitude and peace.

I enjoyed reading all about your path and have sent your information to Sarah, our PRANA RAW CAFE' front manager, who is meeting with people who are interested in joining the PRANA RAW CAFE' family. :)

I hope to see you sometime in my class!

Namaste!

Hi Taylor,
I am a 48-year-old mom of two beautiful teens. Ned is 18 and just graduated Lexington High School on Sunday!. Lydia is 14 and will graduate from Middle School this Friday evening. It all went so fast and I've loved and cherished every minute of being their mom. Ned will be nearby for college, thankfully, but it'll still be very weird not having him here at home in the house with us.

I'm writing to you because I am also following the raw vegan lifestyle and have been totally fascinated by this food for three plus years. Of course, like yourself, I have dozens of books, a dehydrator, a Vita-Mix, a Spirooli,.... and my background is in food, although I have been a stay-at-home mom (and a volunteer in the Lexington schools and for Boston Cares) for 18 years now. I feel the need to go back to work because it is getting lonely here at home and there is so much less that I need to accomplish here now, with my children in their teens. I still want to be home in the afternoons for Lydia when she gets home from school because I don't want her to lose her brother and me at the same time. But I know I will need to be much busier come the Fall, to combat the loneliness of the half-empty nest.

So when I thought about what should I do, I thought about offering a Raw Food Box business, like Matt Amsden's. I also thought about a raw restaurant. But the truth is that I don't actually want to own my own business. After 18 years out of the workplace, I'm not exactly on a career path, nor do I feel that my business skill set is where it needs to be, although I've always been creative (I do art quilting and I helped 200 kids make mosaics for an installation for our school in honor of retired teachers). I don't want to go back to school. I really want to simply work, but at something I believe in. I'd really like to work at Prana Raw Cafe, either in the kitchen, at the counter, in teaching and demonstrations, or all of the above. I drove by today to see if you had a sign in the window to call. When I didn't see one, I decided to write to you here.

I understand what you are going through right now and I'm very sorry for your loss. It is harder when the sun is shrouded, as it has been these past few days. I had a miscarriage in between having my two children, and I was at 17 weeks gestation. There was no heartbeat at the appointment ..... I grieved, but in all, I believed in nature's wisdom. It wasn't meant to be and I had to accept that. Then I got pregnant with my Lydia!!!

I wish you well, Taylor, and I have enjoyed reading about you and your family here on this wonderful site. I really enjoyed the interviews on Youtube with Adrienne Martin, too!

Sincerely,
Nancy

Hey Taylor! It's alike (of course, what you and sagey call me)! being 10, i probably know what kids like to do (Maddie, Sagey, Gigi, Ani, Sarah O, etc.). On Thursdays at band we always like to play games and sports outside. And our fav thing is probably having HUGE DANCE PARTYS!!! Even Pheonix loves having them because we dance with him (he usually wins if it's a contest! LOL)
which shows that it is fun for kids of all ages(as long as they can walk)! most of the games we play are fun for everyone. I think you should have an active game to play with your kids that is fun for all ages (band kids can help you think of some)! Lovin the site!
xoxo,

Hi Super-mom Kris,

We like the Breville best because it's fast, efficient, and easy to clean. We tried 2 other juicers before the Breville and did a lot of research and talked to a lot of raw foodies before we finally bought the Breville. It's also nice to look at and doesn't take up a ton of counter space. ;)

The Norwalk Juicer is by far the best juicer on the market b/c of the method it uses; however, it's exhorbitantly expensive (a couple thousand dollars) and is huge. We ARE investing in one for The Prana Raw Cafe', however, because we'll be making a lot of juices every am and Norwalk juices stay fresh up to 3 days. We learned about the Norwalk juicer from our friend Doug at Liquiteria in the East Village of NYC.

For your kids, try my green lemonade (go to youtube and type in Taylor Wells, green juice). It is delicious and tastes just like lemonade. Start them with a little at a time, that's what we did with our kids.

If you want to go deeper into how to create the best life ever for your family and yourself (and it's not all about food ;), I am now availabe for Prana Super-mom Consultation. I am taking two more clients and so if you are interested, please contact Michael@pranapoweryoga.com.

Thanks Kris and I'm sending you light for the best labor ever!

Namaste!

Hi Taylor,

Just wondering about the Breville juicer. I am aware that the twin gear is more desireable. What is your comment? It's significantly more expensive but I've been told that it is better for a number of reasons.

What is your opinion and why do you suggest the Breville.

We eat a whole foods diet but how do I get my 6 and 3 year old to drink more green juices. I do make green fruit smoothies which they are okay with as long as I don't put additional stuff like hemp, etc.

I'd like to do juice but what is the transition you suggest? A small bit daily until they get used to it? Does the agave really cut the green taste as it doesn't sound too desireably palatable (LOL).

Look forward to your response. I too am having my 3rd in 3 months and I am prepared to make sure she is drinking these early on.

Hi Christine,

I too had varicose veins during my pregnancies. They weren't painful though, as Super-mom friends of mine have experienced, but they were annoying nonetheless.

I remember a friend of mine from Brown wearing super tight panty hose and she said that that helped. Also she spent time daily in a pool jumping up and down I believe. (?? but she said it worked!!).

I'm curious to hear from other Super-moms, as mine weren't painful (just gross looking) and so I didn't don panty hose (yuck).

Here are my suggestions for asanas during pregnancy:

Super-mom Taylor's
Prana Power Yoga Practice
No-No’s During Pregnancy:

1.	DO NOT practice Prana Power Yoga IN THE HEAT if you have not practiced power yoga in heat for at least one year.

2.	No abs (yes, even during first trimester).

3.	No lying on your belly poses.

4.	No inversions (this is debatable, so see how you feel...I felt good doing inversions with my third child, so try and see. There are some great benefits from inversions if your body and baby like them).

5.	Modify twists so that they are gentle . . . using a block and changing the hand position gradually.

6.	Modify plank as needed as the pregnancy progresses (i.e. bring your knees down to the mat).

7.	Modify upward dog (knees and/or thighs resting on the mat as needed . . . and eventually in the third trimester perhaps skip it all together).

8.	No lying on your back—especially in second and third trimesters (you will know when this is a no-no) . . . it’s when the baby is heavy enough to cut off blood circulation to the heart).

9.	No straddle leg split, because your ligaments are so loose during pregnancy that you may/probably will push too far (ouch!!).

10. Also because of loose ligaments, frog should be taken with great care, and perhaps skipped altogether when the belly has gotten quite big (I have skipped it in my third trimester . . . some women may want to take an alternate pose starting in their second trimester). So there are two issues here . . . one is the ligament situation and the other is the size of the belly).

11.	No wheel (this contradicts Bikram; however, it did not work for me for two of my three pregnancies. If you feel you want to take wheel and are following your intuition, it’s OK; however, please be mindful).

12.	Modify your foot position in utkatasana and tadasana as the pregnancy progresses so your feet are wider apart (i.e., as the belly grows, it is literally impossible to keep your big toes and heels together).

13.	It is sometimes helpful—especially during the third trimester when the belly is huge—to take uttanasana instead of rag doll. or perhaps do a little of each, as feels right.

14. Because of taut hamstrings (see #16) and just the sheer size of the belly, it is better as the belly gets bigger (second and third trimester) to skip padahastasana and do padagustasana twice instead.

15.	FYI on arm balances: i was OK doing crow and tripod (NOT HEADSTAND) until later in my second trimester when my belly just made it impossible for me to get into the pose!!

16.	FYI on hamstrings: a woman’s hamstrings get much more taut during pregnancy—especially during the third trimester when the belly is huge and the weight of the belly is pulling her forward.

what to do instead when you are not doing some poses that others are doing during the Prana Power Yoga flow??

Here are some ideas; however, you should do what you feel like doing as modification poses . . . you really know what to do if you ask yourself.

1.	parsvatonasana

2.	reach your right arm forward and left leg back series w/o the half bow

3.	cat tilts

4.	more down dog

5.	camel

6.	child’s pose

7.	badakonasana

8.	janusirsasana

9.	squat

10.	happy baby gently rocking (so as to not be flat on back—especially during third trimester

11.	lie on the left side for savasana and/or to rest—with a block in between the knees or calves

12.	padagustasana instead of padahastasana

general info:

** pregnant students (and all students!!) should stay well hydrated

** heart rate should not exceed 140 (or thereabouts)

** body temperature should not exceed 101°F

** REST WHEN THE BODY SAYS TO. LISTEN TO THE BABY—
NOT THE EGO!!

Namaste!!

4.	No inversions (this is debatable, so see how you feel…I felt good doing inversions with my third child, so try and see.

Namaste!!

My sister is a supermom and expecting her second child in June. Superbaby 2 is really doing a number on her circulatory system- she has a big problem with varicose veins (she is fit and healthy otherwise). Does anyone have any suggestions to alleviate her discomfort?? I am wondering if there are asanas she can do that are safe for pregnancy. Any advice would be deeply appreciated!!
